Summary

Instant #1 New York TimesWall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly bestseller!

In the tenth book in the multimillion-selling Killing series, Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard take on their most controversial subject yet: The Mob。

Killing the Mob is the tenth book in Bill O'Reilly's #1 New York Times bestselling series of popular narrative histories, with sales of nearly 18 million copies worldwide, and over 320 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list。

O'Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard trace the brutal history of 20th Century organized crime in the United States, and expertly plumb the history of this nation's most notorious serial robbers, conmen, murderers, and especially, mob family bosses。 Covering the period from the 1930s to the 1980s, O'Reilly and Dugard trace the prohibition-busting bank robbers of the Depression Era, such as John Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd and Baby-Face Nelson。 In addition, the authors highlight the creation of the Mafia Commission, the power struggles within the "Five Families," the growth of the FBI under J。 Edgar Hoover, the mob battles to control Cuba, Las Vegas and Hollywood, as well as the personal war between the U。S。 Attorney General Bobby Kennedy and legendary Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa。

O'Reilly and Dugard turn these legendary criminals and their true-life escapades into a read that rivals the most riveting crime novel。 With Killing the Mob, their hit series is primed for its greatest success yet。

Interesting page turnerThe author states that main reason Robert Kennedy was appointed Attorney General was because he was JFK's brother。 This what most people thought at the time。 But in the previous pages O'Reilly talks about how involved he was in the McClellan hearings targeting the Mob。 He had little success but he gained a great deal of experience。 More than most newly appointed AGs had。 So the initial statement is contradictory Interesting page turnerThe author states that main reason Robert Kennedy was appointed Attorney General was because he was JFK's brother。 This what most people thought at the time。 But in the previous pages O'Reilly talks about how involved he was in the McClellan hearings targeting the Mob。 He had little success but he gained a great deal of experience。 More than most newly appointed AGs had。 So the initial statement is contradictory 。。。more

I always preface my reviews of the Killing series by saying that even if Bill o’Reilly is a pompous ass, you can’t fault him for his love of history and his ability to co-author some of the most compelling and interesting non-fiction books out there。And that’s the case with Killing the Mob, the 10th of his and Dugard’s best selling series。We all know about the mob and the Mafia thanks to The Godfather and the conspiracy theories regarding their alleged part in assassinating JFK (which, thankfull I always preface my reviews of the Killing series by saying that even if Bill o’Reilly is a pompous ass, you can’t fault him for his love of history and his ability to co-author some of the most compelling and interesting non-fiction books out there。And that’s the case with Killing the Mob, the 10th of his and Dugard’s best selling series。We all know about the mob and the Mafia thanks to The Godfather and the conspiracy theories regarding their alleged part in assassinating JFK (which, thankfully neither of the authors believe), but there is a lot more history and politics involved in their creation and rise to power。 Dugard and o’Reilly once again did a fantastic job of researching their background and eventual all encompassing power。 As usual, I learned a lot and being part Sicilian and jokingly calling my huge extended family “the mob”, this one was a lot of fun to get into, even if that means I may or not be related to some of the most brutal gangsters on the planet。While this one wasn’t quite up to snuff with previous books in the series, it’s still a great look into the crime families that have captivated Americans for decades。 。。。more

Another terrific book by Bill O'Reilly。 This book is really a fast pace and infomrative book of the "La Cosa Nostra”。 Details many of the gangsters - Bonnie & Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd, Dillinger, AlCapone and more。 Goes into the connections between bosses, the Conferences, Meetings, etc。The relationship between the mob and Las Vegas。 The behind the scenes deals and schemes。 The 1960 Presidential Election, JFK, Sam Giancana, Frank Sinatra, Bag of Pigs disaster。 Sit back and enjoy this entertaining Another terrific book by Bill O'Reilly。 This book is really a fast pace and infomrative book of the "La Cosa Nostra”。 Details many of the gangsters - Bonnie & Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd, Dillinger, AlCapone and more。 Goes into the connections between bosses, the Conferences, Meetings, etc。The relationship between the mob and Las Vegas。 The behind the scenes deals and schemes。 The 1960 Presidential Election, JFK, Sam Giancana, Frank Sinatra, Bag of Pigs disaster。 Sit back and enjoy this entertaining book 。。。more

Fascinating! I listened to this book in almost one sitting while driving during Memorial Day weekend。I had no idea how the mob had its hands on American politics, music, casinos in Las Vegas ( a few such as the Flamingo that are still around) and movies。Learning that the government ha: its hands dirty on many occasions was also very interesting。 Unfortunately, people only learn about what happened when the players a long gone and the information no longer matters。 So, when one hears about them i Fascinating! Well written and researched but some stories, such as Dillinger, is not what I consider "organized crime。" So while there are good stories and background, some of which you may not have known even if well-read on this, it is not a full view of the Mafia, if that is what you were expecting。 Well written and researched but some stories, such as Dillinger, is not what I consider "organized crime。" So while there are good stories and background, some of which you may not have known even if well-read on this, it is not a full view of the Mafia, if that is what you were expecting。 。。。more

An O'Reilly look at mafia history。 Even if this is your 25th mafia biography, you'll be entertained。 We're given a bite-sized view of early bank robbing groups, the mob's Italian origins, international super-crooks like Lucky Luciano, families in NY, NJ, FL and LA, and noteable hits on guys who overstayed their welcome。 The huge Guiliani takedowns of the Gambinos and others are somehow relegated to a postscript。 Still, Killing the Mob is a solid 3 stars。 An O'Reilly look at mafia history。 Even if this is your 25th mafia biography, you'll be entertained。 We're given a bite-sized view of early bank robbing groups, the mob's Italian origins, international super-crooks like Lucky Luciano, families in NY, NJ, FL and LA, and noteable hits on guys who overstayed their welcome。 The huge Guiliani takedowns of the Gambinos and others are somehow relegated to a postscript。 Still, Killing the Mob is a solid 3 stars。 。。。more

As usual this was another great well researched book by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard。 However, it made me itch so bad wishing that my grandpa who died near the end of last January hadn't died and was still here because with him being born in 1928, there were some stories and events and people I've been wanting and itching to ask him for other stories he remembers/his perspective and even some thoughts and opinions he had on some situations; that including the conspiracy theory of whether or n As usual this was another great well researched book by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard。 However, it made me itch so bad wishing that my grandpa who died near the end of last January hadn't died and was still here because with him being born in 1928, there were some stories and events and people I've been wanting and itching to ask him for other stories he remembers/his perspective and even some thoughts and opinions he had on some situations; that including the conspiracy theory of whether or not the mob did in fact have a hand in JFK winning the presidency and then someone from the organized crime actually ordering a hit on the president's death and having Lee Harvey Oswald a fall guy。 This book was more than insane with the Mob and what they did mainly in their killings eek! Lately I've watched a few mob type movies (The Godfather, Goodfellas, The Irishman and I forgot another one。。。。) and yet, this book made me want to watch a few other crime and/or mob like movies such as Lawless and Legend (both with Tom Hardy), The Highwaymen, Public Enemies。 Because of that, I actually enjoyed this book in a good way and found many things very interesting。 Including those rare few facts about the film of The Godfather that many of us love。 I don't know what else to talk about except that it made me miss my grandpa even more every time I picked this one up since I can't imagine all the stories from what his perspective and what he could say! But I have to say if you liked and enjoyed this series by O'Reilly, this one will not disappoint。 Such a controversial type topic and yet he nailed it! Absolutely engrossed in this one and just beyond crazy! 。。。more

So disappointed!!!I have read several of O’Reilly’s books and have loved them all。 First of all the book was way too short and it skipped over important elements of the downfall (the KILLING) of the mob。 No mention of the RICO Act and the major role it played。 The book amazingly ends with the Donnie Brasco story and never gets to John Gotti and Sammy the Bull, which to many people was the final blow to the true Mafia。 Sure “made guys” flipping is what ended things but the RICO Act which lead to So disappointed!!!I have read several of O’Reilly’s books and have loved them all。 First of all the book was way too short and it skipped over important elements of the downfall (the KILLING) of the mob。 No mention of the RICO Act and the major role it played。 The book amazingly ends with the Donnie Brasco story and never gets to John Gotti and Sammy the Bull, which to many people was the final blow to the true Mafia。 Sure “made guys” flipping is what ended things but the RICO Act which lead to the taking down of Gotti was the catalyst! This book was good, 3 stars。 I thought I was going to love it because I love all things Mob!! GOOD HISTORICAL BOOKI enjoyed the history provided by this well written history book。 O’Reilly is an excellent writer and the collaboration he manifests with Mr。 Duggard is superb。I guess O’Reilly’s super ego results in his writing talent。

Like all the other killing books by Bill O’Riley this book is well researched。 I did get a different insight into Bobby Kennedy。 I wonder what he would think of his party now as he was so intent on fighting organized crime。 This is very Readable and I highly recommend it。

I loved this book。 It was the first one I have ever read in this series。 It was gripping and thrilling; telling the story behind some of history's most iconic characters that I've heard about, but never knew their stories。 I knew, for example, that the Kennedy's had some connection to the Mob, but, didn't know how closely they were tied。 It was so interesting to learn how the mob operated adn how they functioned。 I would highly recommend this book!
